Joose Siira, a book freak for whom literature and following book industry trends are a passion and a way of life. In 2015, he founded Nide bookstore (@nidekauppa) with Terhi, and soon after that, Nide became a very popular bookstore for Helsinki citizens and visitors.
We’re very glad to have Joose join 5pm Q&A and talk about his daily life during these days. Also, check out the photos at the end of this article for some books Joose recommended for 5pm audiences!
? How do you start your day?
? I wake up at 6:45 when my 2 year old son decided to wake up. When he’s awake, I’m awake. I did a quick jog in the nearby park, then had an oatmeal and coffee with my fiancee and son.
? What’s your daily drink at home?
? Coffee in the morning, tap water during the day. Pilsner Urquell or well chilled Riesling in the evening, not quite daily though.
? What are you wearing now?
? A flannel shirt by Noah, white corduroy work pants by Supreme, and a pair of Cons.
? During this time of social distancing, what activities are you using to keep cheerful?
? Instead of swimming, I started jogging. It’s like constant pain and I’m like million miles away from runner’s high, but I’m getting there, slowly but surely.
Also, I’m keeping in touch with my friends via Messenger and WhatsApp. This has been really important for me past few weeks. It doesn’t have to be all serious, it can be a skate clip, a link to good song on Spotify, or a discussion about the current situation. Every message is equally important.
? Have you done something weird that you never did at home?
? I started a band with my son. I learned to play ukulele and he’s playing a stool as a drum.
? What do you like most when staying at home?
? When not working, I spend most of my time with my son. I wish I had time to read and skate more, but at the moment it is what it is.
? What advice would you give to someone who’s struggling in isolation right now?
? Reading. Choose the topic you’re interested in and continue from there. Reading is an endless source of inspiration and information. Fiction, non-fiction, magazines.
