— 5pm

This March, we made a “Go North” trip to the northern Finland. When we were planning for the trip, we asked ourselves:

“How about driving through the forests?”

“How about going to somewhere even in the north?”

Then we found Nellim on the map, we believed that’s where we would go. The result is we experienced a life we never had, we could be so close to the nature life, we sat by the fire in a yurt with visitors from different countries, we fell asleep under the starry sky, and much more.

Here we highlighted some memories from the “Go North” trip. Scroll down, let’s go north!

Special thanks to Wilderness Nellim, Hertz, Partioaitta, Beyond, Vitamin Well for the supports in this trip.

While I stayed at an Airbnb in Helsinki, I was impressed by the interior and overall experience of the stay. I became interested to know the man behind this heart-warming flat for travelers away from home, so I contacted its owner Joe.

Woolshed is the place we were meeting, it is a bar & restaurant with a warm name owned by Joe, who is originally from Australia and currently living in Helsinki.

The place is in the city center, right next to Helsinki railway station. When we went in, this sheep shearing-themed space instantly warmed us up with its wooden constructs and thoughtful decors on the walls. Joe was waving to us, with a casual street outfit.

There is something that never stops moving, it is time.

In our cities, numerous clocks are quietly living in the corners —
in the train station, on the streets, Although seldom do we pay attention to them, they are there, telling time to the passing pedestrians.

Sometimes, they tell us to mend our pace.
And sometimes they tell us to enjoy the moment.

Silently, they are affecting our life.
Silently, they bring us to 2019.

Thank you, 2018.
We are ready, 2019.

We get together on New Year’s Eve every year, and we have some traditions of drinking hot chocolate, eating crepes, and spinning the bottle. We have been doing this for 12 years.”

During the Christmas holidays, meeting with friends is one of the important things.

Grab some warm coffee, talk about what’s new in life, and go to the Christmas market buying the colorful candies, like we never grew up.

In the old market of the town, fishers and farmers have prepared a good amount of fresh fish and vegetables for people’s tables. In the corner lies a granny’s knitting shop, it has been there for decades.

Many people take out their ugly sweaters from closets, adding some green and red details to the outfits for their festal looking. The whole holidays are full of joyful colors and laughter, and the new year will certainly bring more happiness to the life!
